Brixies’ Brewers’ Club
Minutes 2/10/10

1. Discussion on ideas for club activity.
a. We decided to do the club brew day on May 1st (National Homebrew Day) at Kyle’s store. We will work out the details in April.
b. Discussion on getting an off flavor kit led to discussion on a group of us studying for and taking the BJCP exam (off flavors would be part of it). Anyone attending the Drunk Monk Competition will try to talk to some certified judges.
c. Drunk Monk competition is March 13th. At least a couple of us are planning to enter and judge. Decide if you want to go so we can make plans at the March meeting.
2. Any discussion on another brewery/beer tour?
a. Chris is still working on the Taste of the Midwest.
b. Dark Lord Day is April 24th. We need to know who wants to go by the March meeting so we can look into transportation. Buses with bathrooms are around $600, school buses around $300. Chris may be able to get a short bus.
c. National Home Brewer’s conference and competition is June 17-19 in St. Paul. 1st round entries are due the end of March. If you want to enter we can get a group to go to the drop site (Two Brothers) and start planning a trip to the conference in June.
d. We discussed going to New Glarus for our next brewery tour.
3. Any discussion on the next competition at the March meeting.
a. We will do the tasting much the same as the last time. We will set it up like a tasting so people can try beers in any order. We simply number the beers as they come in and you will not judge your own. Each person can submit one beer for the competition and then as many others as they would like that will go in an “outer ring” for judging. If there are not enough entries more than one beer per person can be in the competition. Still bring 3 unlabeled, brown, 12 oz bottles.
4. Other Business
a. BOSS competition is 3/27, Kyle thinks he is a drop off point.
b. I will start a post on the website for everyone to enter beer books that they own. That way we can borrow books from each other.
c. After the meeting was over we started talking about getting a barrel, lot’s of great ideas came up so we will talk about it at the next meeting.
d. Coming up at Brixies
i. Keep the glass tastings each Friday starting this weekend including 3 Floyd’s Dunkel, New Belgian Saison and Bell’s Batch 9000.
ii. Tasting on March 27th.
